TTD has issued an urgent notice to devotees visiting Tirumala temple

World's wealthiest religious site faces severe water shortage

Water supply to private guesthouses has already been cut

In a surprising development, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has issued an urgent notice to devotees visiting the Tirumala temple, one of the world’s wealthiest religious sites, due to a severe water shortage. Despite heavy rains across much of the country, Tirumala, nestled in Andhra Pradesh’s Seshachalam forest, is facing an unprecedented drought.

Daily, the temple sees a footfall of 50,000 to 100,000 devotees, all of whom require an enormous 43 lakh gallons of water. However, due to the lack of adequate rainfall, the TTD is currently able to supply only 18 lakh gallons per day from available sources, leaving a significant shortfall.

As the situation worsens, TTD officials have warned that the water reserves in Tirupati may last only four more months. The water supply to private guesthouses has already been cut, forcing them to rely on tanker services.

With the annual Brahmotsavam festival scheduled from October 4 to 12, concerns are mounting that the water crisis could intensify during this peak period. In response, the TTD has urged devotees to conserve water during their visits and join in prayers for rainfall to alleviate the dire situation in the Seshachalam forest region.

This unexpected crisis has left devotees worried and highlights the critical need for rain in the region.
