  • Ashwin picked up 3 top order wickets
  • Kuldeep had Zak Crawley and Ben Stokes clean bowled
  • Every individual will stick to their strengths: Paras

Despite having conceded the first innings lead for the first time in the 5-match series, India have managed to give themselves a winning chance after having picked up 8 wickets within 47 overs. All the wickets have been bagged by spinners. Ravichandran Ashwin who recently reached the landmark of 500 wickets picked up 3 top order wickets before Kuldeep Yadav had opener Zak Crawley who scored a half century and English Captain Ben Stokes clean bowled before lunch. He picked up 2 more middle order wickets after lunch Jadeja also contributed by picking up the wicket of Johny Bairstow who seemed to be well settled after a 47-ball 30.

In this context, the statements of India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey in the press conference that took place after the end of play on 24th February seems to have gained more value. “Ravichandran Ashwin is a different kind of bowler. Every individual will stick to their strengths. We don't need to replicate what they have done. We have to stick to our strengths and hopefully keep picking wickets. The England spinners bowled well. Bashir maintained a good line and length, and at this level, you expect your opponents to do just that. He kept it simple and picked up wickets. Every spinner has their style and strengths. He stuck to his strengths - not being a big spinner, he is a tall guy, maintains his length, and keeps it simple. The same applies to Tom Hartley as well,” he had said when asked about how India would approach the 3rd innings of the game.
