The debate pertaining to the accuracy of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) has been reignited with a statement from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SpaceX and Tesla Motors Elon Musk expressing apprehension on the device. The former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has also added his take on the issue by stating that a move towards ballot papers must be made. “Just as justice should not only be served, but should also appear to have been served, so should democracy not only prevail but must appear to be prevalent undoubtedly. In electoral practices across the world in almost every advanced democracy, paper ballots are used, not EVMs. We too must move towards the same in upholding the true spirit of our democracy,” Jagan said on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) went down from 151 Vidhana Sabha seats in 2019 to 11 seats in 2024 and 21 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 to 4 seats in 2024.
