A spell of heavy evening showers lashed several parts of central Bengaluru on Sunday, marking the beginning of a week-long rain forecast for the city. According to meteorological reports, rainfall is expected to persist until July 26, with frequent thunderstorms, mostly in the evenings.

Sunday’s rain caused significant traffic congestion in several key areas including Townhall, K.R. Circle, Nrupathunga Road, and Mysore Bank Circle. Office-goers and evening commuters were caught off-guard as the sudden downpour led to waterlogging and slowed vehicular movement across arterial routes.

Many vehicles were seen stuck in bottlenecks while pedestrians struggled to navigate flooded footpaths. Traffic police were deployed at key junctions to manage the unexpected spike in congestion. The BBMP’s stormwater drain network also came under pressure, highlighting the city’s continued struggle with monsoon preparedness.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted consistent rainfall over the next seven days, with cloudy skies and thunderstorm activity expected every afternoon and evening. Residents are advised to carry umbrellas, avoid low-lying flood-prone areas, and plan for delays, especially during peak hours.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged citizens to stay updated through official channels and avoid circulating unverified weather alerts on social media.
