  • Indian batting collapses after a 1st innings partnership
  • Shardul Thakur picks up 3 top order wickets
  • 91 run partnership for the 5th wicket partnership between Shai Hope and Keacy Carty

India had gotten off to a solid start with a 1st wicket 90 run opening partnership between Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. However both of them departed in quick succession leading to a batting collapse with 5 wickets falling for just 23 runs. Suryakumar Yadav along with the all rounders tried to stabilize the innings but did not get very far as the Indian Innings folded for 181.

In response Shardul Thakur had the top order in knots picking up 3 wickets. Soon Shimron Hetmyer was bowled out by Kuldeep Yadav but a 91 run partnership for the 5th wicket partnership between Shai Hope and Keacy Carty seals the victory for West Indies against India. This is the first victory for West Indies against India in ODIs since December 2019 when Shirmon Hetmyer’s 139 handed them a 8 wicket victory in the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

This is a much needed boost of ODI (One Day International) cricket in the Caribbean after a forgettable outing in the world cup qualifiers were they lost to associate nations such as Zimbabwe, Netherlands and Scotland and failed to qualify for the 50 over CWC (Cricket World Cup) to be held in India later this year for the first time in their cricketing history.
