A Seasoned Officer from the 1993 Batch

M.A. Saleem is a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre. He has had an illustrious career in the state police force, serving in multiple key roles. Prior to this appointment, Saleem was serving as the DGP of CID, Economic Offences, and Special Units. His experience in handling complex investigations and high-profile assignments has earned him a reputation as one of the most capable officers in the force.

A Proud Kannadiga at the Helm

Hailing from Tumakuru, Saleem becomes one of the few Kannada-speaking officers to reach the highest position in the state police hierarchy — the last being Shankar Bidari. His elevation is being seen as a proud moment for the state, marking the return of a local officer to the top post after years.

A Trusted Leader in Transition

Though appointed in an additional charge capacity, Saleem’s leadership comes at a time when law enforcement is under pressure to maintain order during monsoon-related civic challenges and rising cybercrimes. His extensive field experience is expected to bring stability and strategic direction to the police force.
