    Contributing factors include sedentary lifestyle

It's advised to get periodic test done

Childhood is one of the most glorious phases in human life. However, these days, kids are getting diabetes, which is a silent killer!

Of all the reasons, it is the lifestyle that matters the most.

Speaking to NewsFirst Prime, Sumita, ophthalmologist, Narayana Nethralaya, says, “Getting diabetes could be related to their lifestyle. They eat processed food like chips and biscuits. Their metabolism has slowed due to a sedentary lifestyle.”

The effects of having diabetes can be many, including glaucoma and cataract.

She adds, “Kids can suffer from diabetic retinopathy. Blood vessels can bleed as a result of this. This can lead to problems in vision. Kids with high diabetes suffer from glaucoma and cataract. If retinopathy is diagnosed early, treatment can be more effective.”

As a result of having diabetes, kids can also have endocrinological issues.

“India is the world’s diabetes capital. Not just adults but even kids suffer from it. When it comes to kids, they can suffer from endocrine abnormalities, growth abnormalities and other problems,” she noted. Few know that diabetes is a silent disease. However, regular tests help in monitoring it better.

“Diabetes is a silent disease. Only when a screening is done, does it come to light. So kids with diabetes should undergo checks annually. Even their nerves should be checked thoroughly,” the doctor emphasised.
