Spanning an area of approximately 4,000 hectares, the Mahakumbh’s budget is estimated at ₹6,382 crore, with ₹5,600 crore already allocated towards event management and infrastructure development. This marks a significant increase compared to the ₹3,700 crore spent on the 2019 Kumbh Mela. The scale of the event underscores its historical legacy of economic impact, dating back to 1882, when the Kumbh Mela generated a net profit of ₹29,612.
Beyond Prayagraj, the Mahakumbh is expected to boost the economy of nearby religious hubs, including Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mathura, and Vindhyavasini Dham. Thousands of jobs are being created, with the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department reporting that preparations have already provided employment to 45,000 families.
Experts highlight the transformative potential of such a large-scale event, not only in religious and cultural terms but also as a driver of economic activity, tourism, and infrastructure development, marking a significant milestone for Uttar Pradesh.
