  • Feminism is all about gender equality
  • It fights for equality in all spheres
  • Feminism in not anti-men

Indian actress and television director Neena Gupta has spoken her mind on the issue of feminism. In a candid interview with a private Youtuber, she asserts that she doesn't believe in ‘faltu-feminism’ and that men and women are not equal.

She said, “I want to say that it’s not necessary to believe in ‘faltu feminism’ or the idea that 'women are equal to men'. Instead, focus on achieving financial independence and giving attention to your work. If you’re a housewife, don’t look down on it; it’s an important role. Boost your self-esteem and avoid thinking of yourself as small. That’s the main message I want to convey."

Additionally, she said that women need men and gave an empirical example to prove her point.

She narrated how a man stalked her while she was about to catch a flight at 4 in the morning. Later, as she missed the flight, she rebooked it for the next day and stayed at her male friend’s house and felt secure. She emphasised, ‘I need a man.’

What is feminism?

Feminism is a movement in which advocates of the same fight for gender equality in all, including socio, economic and political fields.

Though it is a positive moment, stressing on women’s rights, we should stress it is not about hating men.
