Bengaluru is experiencing hotter-than-usual weather. Relief is expected only after next Monday. Meteorologists blame easterly winds from Tamil Nadu for the heat. These winds push warm air into Bengaluru and South Interior Karnataka. Cooler conditions may return when northeasterly winds start flowing next week.

Temperatures have risen sharply since last weekend. The city has recorded maximum temperatures above 31°C for three days straight. February usually sees an average of 29.5°C. On Monday, the mercury hit 31.9°C, which is 2.4°C above normal. Sunday was even hotter at 32.5°C. Saturday recorded 32.2°C. The most significant jump was between January 30 and 31. It went from 29.9°C to 31.4°C in just one day.

Despite the heat, meteorologists say summer has not arrived early. February temperatures tend to fluctuate. Between 1981 and 2010, the mean maximum for the month was 30.7°C. The current heatwave is due to dry air and clear skies. An anticyclonic circulation over central India is also a factor. It prevents clouds from forming over Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.

No rain is expected this week. A slight dip in temperature may occur once winds change direction. The ongoing heat could cause discomfort. Authorities urge residents to take precautions. Hydration is essential. Avoiding direct sunlight is recommended. Officials suggest wearing light clothing and sunscreen. Staying indoors during peak hours is advised to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Experts continue to monitor the situation. Further fluctuations in temperature are possible. Relief will come gradually as northeasterly winds arrive. Until then, Bengaluru residents must brace for a hot week ahead.
