Indian wicket keeper KL Rahul’s association with the Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) franchise is likely to come to an end before the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). There are also speculations that he might lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in the upcoming season.

K.L Rahul led LSG in 3 seasons starting from 2022 and lasting until 2024. LSG qualified for the playoffs on 2 occasions. In 2024 however, they finished at the 7th spot. The franchise’s owner Sanjiv Goenka was visibly discontent over the team’s performance. This led to Sanjiv publicly confronting KL Rahul after the squad’s 10-wicket loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

K.L Rahul hails from Karnataka. He has also been associated with RCB in the past. With teams having to think of numerous factors before announcing their retentions ahead of the mega audition, having an Indian player well acclimatised with the condition and having a good track record in the domain of captaincy will serve to be an advantage for RCB.

RCB’s present captain Faf Du Plessis has also had an exceptional track record. However he turned 40 on July 13th. Whether RCB would be looking for a young captain keeping long term prospects in mind remains to be seen.
