This industry-academia partnership to address the healthcare gap

Wipro GE Healthcare and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to propel advancements in healthcare innovation, research, and technology development within India.

This strategic collaboration is designed to tackle healthcare challenges comprehensively, encompassing co-development of solutions, technology validation, and local manufacturing for market deployment, as outlined in a press release by GE Healthcare.

The primary objective of this industry-academia partnership is to address the care gap by promoting the indigenous innovation and manufacturing of medical technology (MedTech) products.

These efforts are geared towards meeting the healthcare needs of both global and local patients grappling with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, cardiology, and neurology, aligning with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India), according to the company.

The collaboration spans various areas, including joint initiatives in basic and applied science, systems engineering, product and software development, consultancy, shared intellectual property, publications, academic studies, internships, fellowships and training programs. To facilitate seamless research and development, IISc and GE Healthcare will establish a joint working committee, featuring representatives from both entities, focused on product and solution development.
