The wedding season in India starts today (November 23), with as many as 38 lakh weddings to take place in the whole country.
Fresh from a salubrious festive season, now, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), an Industry body that deals with both goods and services, expects a generation of a huge income worth Rs 4.74 lakh crore during this season.
The body arrived at this estimate, based on the discussions it held with trade bodies in 30 cities and also with other stakeholders in goods and services.
Interestingly, in the same time period last year, 32 lakh weddings had taken place, generating about Rs 3.75 lakh crore.
In Delhi alone, 4 lakh weddings are slated to take place and generate Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
Here’s a rough breakdown:
10% in textiles
15% in jewellery
5% in electronics
5% in dry fruits, sweets
5% in food grain and grocery
4% in gift items
6% in other miscellaneous items
Interestingly, experts also note that the trade momentum will only continue, with Christmas and New Year succeeding it.
On January 14, another wedding season starts.
