Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Rituraj Gaikwad

RCB will take on CSK on 22nd March at Chepauk stadium

It would have made more sense if MS Dhoni was not around: Jaffer

With the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) set to commence on 22nd March with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Chepauk stadium in Chennai, the question regarding the future of former Indian Captain MS Dhoni’s future in the tournament has surfaced once again. Dhoni has handed over the captaincy to Indian opening batsman Rituraj Gaikwad but one must remember that Indian all rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the captain of CSK in the first half of the previous season.

Former Indian test batsman Wasim Jaffer gave his opinion on the scenario in an interaction with ESPNCricinfo. “I think it would have made more sense if MS Dhoni was not around. He had retired, and he was not around. It would have made any captain’s life a lot easier. Now, with MS Dhoni being around, it always makes a job a lot more difficult for any captain. Whether he takes any decision and whether Dhoni agrees to it or not. Whether he likes those decisions. And you are on your own, and we all know that Ruturaj Gaikwad would have been the successor. But I think if Dhoni was not around, it would have made it a lot more easier (sic),” Wasim mentioned.
