Shabina, who works as a domestic help, said the conflict began on April 7 when her relative Nasreen visited her. The two women, along with Shabina’s children went to a hill  in Bukkambudhi and returned home later that day. Though Nasreen initially planned to leave, she stayed over. During that time, a man named Fayaz also visited the mosque.

When Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned and found both Nasreen and Fayaz in the house, he was angered and approached the local mosque to file a complaint. As a result, Shabina, Nasreen and Fayaz were summoned to the mosque, where Shabina was allegedly attacked with sticks, pipes, clubs and stones.

A formal complaint was filed on April 11 under various BNS sections, and a special investigation team has been formed.
