The saga began 25 years ago when Sakamma, attending a relative's wedding in Hosapete with her children, accidentally boarded a train to Chandigarh. What followed were years of struggle as she lived in various states across northern India before finding refuge in an old age home in Mandi.

Her family, devastated by her disappearance, filed a missing person report and eventually performed her last rites after failing to locate her for decades.

The breakthrough came when a young IPS officer visiting the old age home identified Sakamma speaking in Kannada. After listening to her story, the officer coordinated with Karnataka’s social welfare department to trace her roots. Authorities successfully contacted her family, paving the way for an emotional reunion.

Sakamma’s story underscores the power of perseverance and the significance of inter-state collaboration in reuniting lost individuals with their loved ones. She is expected to reach her home state today, bringing closure to a long chapter of separation.
