In what is apparently a mob fury, the house of one of the accused in the Manipur incident related to women being paraded naked on the 4th of May in the Kangpokpi district, has been set on fire. Huirem Herodas Meitei, who was seen dragging a Kuki woman by her hair, faced the wrath of the protestors. He was however arrested with 3 others including Huirem Heradash Singh who had led the mob. The video of the incident went viral on social media.
The Manipur Police have filed an FIR on this incident on May 18th. Why then was no action taken for over 2 months is a question that is left for the state administration to answer. The Supreme Court has also made note of this lapse in due process and sought explanations from the Union and the state government.
Two days ago, the video, in which the two women were seen being paraded naked went viral, making an entire nation hang its head in shame.
The two women were forced to remove their clothes.
The gruesome incident took place more than 2 months ago, but came to light on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Modi who spoke on the issue urged state governments to ensure safety of women and assured that the accused would not be spared.
