In a major blow to the residents of Yelahanka’s Kendriya Vihar Apartments, the Fire Department has issued a directive to BESCOM to permanently disconnect the power supply to the apartment complex. This shocking move comes due to the apartment’s failure to renew the mandatory fire safety clearance.

The Kendriya Vihar apartment complex houses over 600 flats and more than 3,000 residents. Every monsoon, the area gets severely waterlogged, raising serious safety concerns. Despite repeated warnings, the fire safety clearance has not been renewed, leading the Fire Department’s Director General to send a formal letter to BESCOM, requesting a complete power cut.
Three months ago, BESCOM had temporarily disconnected power for two days following a similar notice. Now, the threat of a permanent disconnection has left the residents in utter panic.
Residents argue that they had applied for clearance renewal back in March, but have not received any response from the Fire Department. The situation is dire, especially because the apartment has ten floors, and several elderly residents and patients dependent on ventilators and medical equipment reside there.
"If electricity is cut permanently, our lives will be in danger," said a representative from the apartment association. “We have no choice left, we’re planning to meet the Governor and seek mercy death if this happens.”
This incident has sparked outrage and fear among the residents, who now face the prospect of living without basic amenities, and more importantly, without safety assurances. The residents are urging authorities to act immediately, expedite the fire clearance process, and ensure the power supply continues without disruption.
