The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced Karan Bhushan Singh, the son of the former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Chief Brij Bhushan Singh as the candidate from the Kaiserganj constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. 

This decision has not gone down well with certain sections of people who claim that this decision indicates complacency apart from promoting family politics. This includes women wrestlers who has levied charges of sexual harassment on Brij Bhushan Singh. Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik expressed her disappointment at this development on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter). “India’s daughters have lost, Brij Bhushan has won. All of us put our careers at stake, spent days on the street. Brij Bhushan has still not been arrested. All we ever demanded was justice. But let alone arrest, his son has got a ticket which has broken the spirits of crores of India’s daughters. The ticket has stayed in the family. Why is the government so weak in front of one man? All you want are votes in the name of Lord Ram, what about following his footsteps,” the tweet mentioned.

Brij Bhushan had won the Lok Sabha election from this constituency in 2014 as well as in 2019. The margin of victory was more than 2 lakh in the year 2019.
