In a move to promote road safety and encourage citizens to assist accident victims, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced a significant increase in the rewards for Good Samaritans. Starting immediately, individuals who rush accident victims to hospitals within the first crucial hour will be rewarded ₹25,000, five times more than the previous reward of ₹5,000.

The government aims to recognize the vital role of timely intervention, especially in the "golden hour" when immediate medical assistance can make the difference between life and death. The scheme, launched in 2021, specifically targets those who voluntarily provide emergency help to road accident victims without expecting any payment or reward.

Additionally, the government introduced a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims, covering hospital expenses up to ₹1.5 lakh for the first seven days of treatment. This scheme will apply to victims on both national and state highways.

These measures reflect the government's continued efforts to improve road safety and ensure that timely medical care is accessible to those injured in accidents. By incentivizing Good Samaritans and covering immediate medical costs, the government hopes to reduce fatalities and encourage more people to step forward in times of crisis.
