In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage, a young woman was harassed by a group of five to six men in Renuka Yellamma Colony near Anekal on Monday evening. The attack occurred around 4 PM while the woman was walking to a nearby shop, just a week after moving into the area.

The assailants, believed to be under the influence of drugs, allegedly followed her, made lewd comments, and touched her inappropriately. “They came running behind me. It happened near my home. I have been here for just a week. Many came to help me as I underwent trouble,” the woman told police.
An eyewitness, Pradeep, said, “They were drunk and performing wheelies. She was there. They approached her and she resisted. They attacked her. They even said she was good looking.”

An FIR has been filed at Bannerghatta Police Station. The group physically assaulted her when she tried to resist. The culprits fled as locals intervened.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers, believed to be between 19 and 25 years old. Residents have demanded swift justice and increased patrolling in the area.

In 2024 alone, 1,247 such sexual harassment incidents have been reported in the region, highlighting the urgent need for stricter law enforcement and drug control measures.
