The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has further enhanced the Z-category security of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, following heightened military tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. As part of the upgrade, a special bulletproof vehicle has been added to his convoy, and security around his Delhi residence has been significantly intensified.

Jaishankar currently receives Z-category security, which is the third-highest level of protection in India. It includes 22 personnel, among them 4 to 6 NSG commandos and local police officers, along with escort vehicles and a bulletproof car. His overall protection detail now consists of 33 CRPF commandos providing round-the-clock security.

This enhancement follows an earlier upgrade in October 2023, when his security was raised from Y to Z category based on a threat assessment by the Intelligence Bureau (IB). At the time, the security setup at his residence included 12 armed static guards, 6 Personal Security Officers (PSOs), 12 armed escort commandos in three shifts, 3 watchers in rotation, and 3 trained drivers on standby at all hours.
