Zoya and Farhan realised I wasn’t the ‘stepmother’ they read about in fairy tales: Shabana Azmi

Bollywood actress Shabana Azmi opened up about her relationship with Bollywood director Zoya Akthar and Bollywood actor Farhan Akthar. Farhan and Zoya are Bollywood screenwriter Javed Akthar’s wards from his first marriage with Bollywood screenwriter Honey Irani. “The fact is I didn’t push myself on them and didn’t try too hard. I just let it be. I let water flow its own course. It is really a very beautiful relationship. I would give a lot of credit to Honey for that but also to myself, and to Javed and to the children. Today, when you see us, we are like a family. She (Honey) is like a family member,” Shabana said in an interview with Zoom.

Shabana married Javed in the year 1984. This was after Javed’s 12-year marriage with Honey fell apart. However this did not negatively affect Javed’s children. “It is because of Honey’s generosity! It could not have been possible if Honey would not have been so generous to share them. She did that from the time they were small children. When they got that from their mother and realised that I wasn’t the ‘stepmother’ that they had read about in fairy tales, it became so much easier.,” Shabana added.
