Opening night featured the out-of-competition world premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” reuniting Michael Keaton with his iconic role as the mischievous ghoul. The film also stars Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Monica Bellucci, and rising star Jenna Ortega. Director Tim Burton, known for his affinity for the strange and fantastical, described the project as a personal revival.
The film revisits the chaotic world of the 1988 classic, introducing new characters like Ortega’s rebellious teen and Bellucci’s soul-sucking ex-wife of Beetlejuice. Burton’s dark humor and imaginative visuals promise a nostalgic yet fresh experience for fans.
The festival’s opening ceremony honored Sigourney Weaver with a lifetime achievement Golden Lion, while upcoming films include Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Maria Callas and the eagerly awaited “Joker: Folie à Deux” starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The competition also features an array of international talents, with films from directors like Pedro Almodóvar, Luca Guadagnino, and Justin Kurzel.
