2 parents approach court over claim that Covishield caused children’s death

A revelation by the Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in a court has created panic among a section of people. AstraZeneca admitted in a court in London that although rare, the possibility of harmful side effects of the Covishield vaccine cannot be ruled out. The Covishield Vaccine could cause Vaccine Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT). 

2 parents who have lost their daughters will now fight a legal battle in light of this development. The parents have stated that they would be filing a case against the Serum Institute of India (SII) that distributed the Covishield vaccine in India.

The parents claim that 18-year-old Ritika and 20-year-old Karunya died as a result of having been administered with the Covishield vaccine. Venugopal Govindan is the father of Karunya. Karunya died in July 2021. Rachana, the mother of Ritika claimed that she died within 2 weeks of having received a dosage of the Covishield vaccine. The parents claim that there are several such cases and have hence approached the Supreme Court. Medical experts associated with the government had stated that there were no health risks associated with the vaccine. The officials who made the statement have also come under the radar of the parents.
