Two years after enduring devastating floods, Mahadevapura, the tech corridor of Bengaluru, is slated for a transformation. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has greenlit 47 projects amounting to Rs 50 crore to avert future flooding in the area.

The comprehensive plan encompasses enhanced roadways and drainage systems to fortify the region against inundation. Notably, Mahadevapura witnessed extensive flooding, submerging complexes, villas, and houses during heavy rains in 2022, triggering widespread chaos with submerged roads and uprooted trees, prompting evacuations.

Following the floods, an infrastructure overhaul was planned, originally scheduled to commence in 2023 but postponed due to assembly elections. A recent media report indicated that the state government mandated BBMP’s approval before commencing the civic works, delaying the process.

Initially budgeted at Rs 60 crore, the allocated funds were subsequently reduced to Rs 50 crore. Nevertheless, after receiving approval on March 15, the BBMP is set to kickstart flood-control measures, aiming for completion within six months.

Targeted areas for development include Whitefield, Hagadur, Munnekollal, Marathahalli, Doddanekkundi, AECS Layout, Kadugodi, Varthur, Hoodi, Bellandur, Doddakannelli, and Garudachar Palya.

The BBMP plans to lay asphalt roads, erect RCC retaining walls and culverts envisioning a resilient Mahadevapura immune to future flooding crises.
