The scorching heat in ‘India’s Silicon Valley’ has led residents to curtail their outdoor activities, venturing out only when necessary due to the escalating temperatures.

Bengalureans are refraining from leisure outings, particularly during daylight hours, resulting in noticeable effects on the bustling streets of key markets like Church Street and Brigade Road.

Once bustling with crowds and lively chatter, the vicinity of iconic landmarks such as Commercial Street, Church Street, Brigade Road, Jayanagar, and others now witnesses significantly reduced foot traffic. Consequently, sales have plummeted, with the president of the Brigade Road Traders’ Association, Sohail Yusuf, reportedly highlighting the stark decline in visitor numbers. “Traditionally bustling with activity, especially during festive seasons, Brigade Road now sees a mere trickle of visitors, greatly impacting businesses,” he said.

The heat has prompted a shift in shopping habits, with patrons opting for evening hours over daytime for their retail excursions.

Shop proprietors are adapting by installing cooling systems and offering complimentary water bottles to enhance customer comfort.

However, many consumers are opting for online shopping to avoid the discomfort of sweltering conditions in city or are found seeking refuge in the cool confines of air-conditioned stores.
