The lack of star-studded ventures is putting single screen theatre owners in a difficult spot. Theatres are reported to be running under losses. A meeting of producers took place at the Film Chamber. “Even though we haven’t called for a bandh, certain business entities have been affected. Satellite rights have been stopped. Hindi dubbing has been stopped in Mumbai. These are effects over the last 4-5 days. We haven’t explicitly called for a Bandh on any occasion. Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) DK Shivakumar have asked us to approach them with our problems. We have problems related to taxation. Producers also have a problem with regard to the ticketing system. We have issues with regard to the provision of basic facilities. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is another issue. We have had a discussion with regard to which of these issues need to be addressed on an immediate basis,” N.M Suresh, the president of the Film Chambers said.

The situation is expected to improve after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
