The Karnataka government is actively considering the option of bestowing full state honours during the funerals of those who selflessly donate their organs after passing away, revealed Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on November 3.
In a bid to promote the significance of organ donation, the government is poised to establish a comprehensive policy that will raise awareness about the noble act and encourage a larger populace to engage in such humanitarian deeds.
Minister Rao took to the popular social media platform X to advocate for organ donation, emphasizing that a solitary organ donor has the capacity to potentially save as many as eight lives.
A single organ donor can save up to 8 lives. We believe this noble act of gifting lives deserves a greater appreciation, and our Government is contemplating a programme that recognizes and honours individuals who donate their organs after death.

Expressing a deep reverence for this altruistic gesture, he articulated the government’s contemplation of a comprehensive program intended to acknowledge and pay tribute to individuals who generously give the gift of life through posthumous organ donation.
In addition to the proposed policy, Minister Rao highlighted various potential measures under consideration, including the provision of official certificates to donors and the implementation of state-honoured funerals.
