Debris of an IAF plane An-32 has been found
It had gone missing since 2016
It had gone off-radar moments aftet it took off
The debris of an IAF plane An-32 has been found now. The aircraft had gone missing since 2016. It was discovered 310 kms off the Chennai coast. As many as 28 personnel had died.
“The search images were scrutinised and found to be conforming with an An-32 aircraft. This discovery at the probable crash site, with no other recorded history of any other missing aircraft report in the same area, points to the debris as possibly belonging to the crashed IAF An-32 (K-2743),” a press release by the government said.
It might be recalled that on July 22, 2016, the aircraft Antonov An-32, had taken off from the Tambaram Air Force Station in Chennai.
It was on a weekly trip to Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft went incommunicado, forcing an intense search by the authorities. But it is only now that a concrete picture has emerged.
At that point in time, due to no success in locating the aircraft, it was declared ‘presume dead’.
