Kollywood actor Rajnikanth-starrer ‘Enthiran’ was India’s most expensive film at the time of its release. It had shattered box office records and also highlighted the Indian audience is open to experimentation. Interestingly, it has now been learnt that there were plans to have the late American pop star Michael Jackson sing for the movie. “Shankar sir asked me if he would sing for the film. I said, wow, will he sing a Tamil song? I asked. He said, whatever you say, we’ll do it together. He was sick at that time,” Music composer AR Rehman said in an interaction with fans in Malaysia recorded by Free Malaysia Today.

Unfortunately, Michael Jackson died in June 2009 when Enthiran’s shooting was still underway. Enthiran released in October 2010. AR Rehman recounted meeting with Michael Jackson after having won the Oscar for the song ‘Jai Ho’ that was recorded for the film Slumdog Millionaire. “I asked if I could meet him. An email was sent out but there was no response for a week. Then, I got nominated for the Oscars. Michael’s team said he wanted to meet me. I said, I don’t want to meet him now. I’ll meet him when I’ve won an Oscar. I met him at a home in LA the day after I won it. He was very kind, we spoke about music and world peace. He said, why don’t we do the next We Are The World, and introduced me to his kids. He even showed me how he dances from the heart,” AR Rehman added.
