As the academic landscape continues to evolve, 694 colleges in Karnataka have received the coveted in-principle approval from the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to commence Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA), and Bachelor in Management Studies (BMS) courses. However, despite being notified via email, colleges have reported a delay in receiving the official letters.

According to data provided by AICTE, a total of 3,127 colleges across the nation have been granted the letter of principle, with an additional 5,009 colleges receiving an extension of approval. This development marks a significant shift as, starting this year, all institutions intending to offer undergraduate courses in the aforementioned disciplines are required to seek approval from AICTE. Previously, AICTE’s jurisdiction primarily covered postgraduate programs like MBA and MCA, in addition to technical courses.
Expressing concern over the delay in receiving official documentation, college principals reportedly emphasized the necessity of these letters for the continuation of affiliation and subsequent admissions. Despite the predicament, colleges are proceeding with admissions based on the in-principle approvals.
AICTE has urged students to seek admissions only in approved colleges to avail themselves of scholarships and internship programs. Karnataka’s prominent position in the approvals is attributed to its status as a state with a high concentration of colleges, boasting the third-highest college count in India, as per the All-India Survey of Higher Education, with a total of 4,430 institutions.
