Reporters flocked the airport ahead of Prajwal's arrival

Prajwal's travel was sponsored by BJP: Nalapad

Legal experts believe Prajwal might be convicted

As the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Hassan Prajwal Revanna was scheduled to arrive at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) during the early hours of 31st May, various reporters had flocked to get a visual of the arrest.

The sheer scale of the number of victims who were recorded on camera while indulging in sexual acts and the impunity that the perpetrators in this case had was not something which was easy to digest. This case with a lot of twists and turns has angered people across Karnataka who have been closely following each update. “The program of Shri Prajwal Revanna to go outside India is sponsored by BJP. On the day of the 26th after polling, he was sent immediately with a diplomatic passport outside. Today, after all the phases of the election are over, he has come. Had he come 10 days earlier, the media would have shown his activities. Where he has gone, when he has been arrested etc. All the space would be taken away. That is why the BJP including Narendra Modiji, Amit Shahji, Yeddyurappaji and Vijayendraji have planned together to send him outside,” IYC Karnataka Chief Haris Nalapad said at the airport.

The track record of conviction of influential politicians for their misdeeds has not been great in the Indian context. Legal experts however, are of the opinion that this case might be an exception since the evidence is overwhelmingly pointing towards Prajwal’s guilt. Legal proceedings are not easy to predict, but one can hope that justice is served for the victims in this case as that would deter a similar abuse of power in the future.
