The unfortunate death of 23-year-old Neha Hiremath has now become a matter of political contestation in Karnataka ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. A call for a bhand in Dharwad has been made.
The Muslim community in Dharwad is rallying for justice for Neha. The call for the bhand has been given by the Anjuman-e-Islam organisation. The bandh will last for half a day on 22nd April. Through this initiative, shops owned by Muslims across the region will be closed for half a day.
Former Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S Yediyurappa had remarked the Congress had failed to protect a member of its own party. Reacting to this, Sharanabassappa Darshanapura of the Indian National Congress (INC) questioned Yediyurappa about whether there were no murders that took place under his regime. “How many Hindus have died during his rule. We are ready to provide the facts and figures in relation to this,” Sharanbasappa said.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President JP Nadda paid a visit to the residence of Neha Hiremath. Later he alleged that the Karnataka Government is practising the politics of appeasement. He demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation for this incident.
