The murder of an MCA student Neha Hiremath on the promise of the BVB campus in Hubballi has sent shockwaves across Karnataka and also resulted in the politicisation of the issue. Mumtaz, the mother of Fayaz, the accused in this case has asked for forgiveness from the people of Karnataka. “I seek forgiveness for the mistake of my son to the entirety of Karnataka. I seek forgiveness from Neha’s parents. She’s like a daughter to me. I am as saddened by her death just as her parents would be. What my son did was wrong. It is wrong no matter who does it. Let him be punished as per the law of the land. I am a teacher. I teach people about right and wrong. His actions have made me put my head down in shame,” Mumtaz said.
