Ashwin has bagged 500 wickets at an average below 24

Ashwin became the second player to reach 500 test wickets before completing 100 test matches. He achieved the feat in his 98th test during England’s first innings. Zak Crawley was in a well established 89-run partnership with Ben Duckett when a ball caught onto the top edge while he was attempting a sweep shot. Rajat Patidar held onto an easy catch to help Ravichandran Ashwin achieve a milestone in his career. Muralidharam still holds the record for the fastest player to get to 500 wickets. Muralidharan accumulated 500 wickets in 87 matches. Ashwin has bagged 500 wickets at a remarkable average which is below 24.

Earlier in the day, Ravichandran Ashwin also contributed with the bat with an 89-ball 37 that included 6 fours. He was however involved in an argument with the umpire after England were awarded 5 runs as penalty as Ashwin was alleged to run down to the middle of the pitch while batting. The rule states that “it is unfair to cause deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch. If the striker enters the protected area while playing or playing at the ball, he or she must move from it immediately thereafter. A batter will be deemed to be causing avoidable damage if either umpire considers that his or her presence on the pitch is without reasonable cause.”
