Ashwin is in consideration for the World Cup squad

Ashwin picked up 3 crucial wickets in the 2nd ODI against Australia

With injury concerns around Axar Patel still looming, selectors tested Ashwin and he has impressed in the first two ODIs against Australia.

He picked up two crucial top order and one middle order wicket in a span of 2 overs putting India in a strong position.

In a video released by BCCI he explained the dismissals.

He talked about his focus on length and pace. “From my side I wanted to keep the length perfect in terms of keeping it away from the bat and also change pace. Marnus tried to play a reverse sweep before that. I was expecting him to try the shot again or go for a slog sweep. I wanted to keep my pace up and down, just in case he gave his stumps away. I felt they were not picking it off the hand very well. The angle I created and the change of grip helped. I am using my third finger to bowl the carrom ball. Hopefully it will hold me in good shape,” he stated.

“I worked with Sai raj at NCA on different angles and grips. We worked on it for 3 to 4 days. Should have done this a long time ago,” he added.

He talked about deception being key to spin bowling “I was pleased with the amount of uncertainty I was able to create with respect to both edges of the blade. It is because my angles were similar for the carrom ball and the slider. Release points were similar. I wanted to bring both edges into play and I am glad that I was able to execute it,” he expressed.
