This initiative is a first-of-its-kind alumni mentorship programme
Initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry
A total of 26 alumni have volunteered to mentor students over next 3 years
Bangalore University (BU) has taken a pioneering step by launching its Industry-Alumni Mentorship Programme for Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) students. The initiative, introduced at BU’s Jnanabharathi campus, is the first of its kind, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
A total of 26 alumni, including five from the United States and one from the Gulf region, have volunteered to mentor students over the next three years. BU hopes the programme will enhance the BCA course, offering students valuable insights into industry expectations and technological advancements.

Senior professor Dr. Muralidhara BL from the Department of Computer Science and Applications highlighted the programme’s objectives. “The mentorship will focus on guiding students in their academics, projects, internships, and placements. Through this initiative, we aim to educate them on the latest technologies, industry standards, and expectations,” said Dr. Muralidhara, who is also a BU alumnus.
The mentorship programme comes as BU introduces three new undergraduate specialisations—Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Full Stack Development. Each mentor will guide three BCA students, offering support across a range of academic and professional areas.
The Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jayakara S M, received praise for his continued support of this initiative, with BU hoping the programme will not only boost the value of its BCA course but also solidify connections between alumni and current students for years to come.
