BBMP's initiative aligns with its commitment to maintaining city's greenery
Horticulture department has presented a comprehensive proposal to BBMP
This effort underscores city's commitment to environmental sustainability
The horticulture department of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is embarking on an ambitious project to establish twenty new parks within the city during the 2024-25 fiscal year.
These green spaces will be strategically situated in the city’s outlying areas, particularly in the 110 villages recently incorporated into BBMP limits across Mahadevapura, Yelahanka, Dasarahalli, Bommanahalli, and RR Nagar zones.
To optimize the utilization of available Palike properties that are currently fenced and unused, the new parks will be developed on these sites. This initiative aligns with BBMP’s broader commitment to maintaining the city’s lush greenery. The projects division is tasked with overseeing essential aspects such as fencing, pathways, and other civil works, while the horticulture division is responsible for cultivating a diverse array of plants, including medicinal varieties like lemon.
The horticulture department has already presented a comprehensive proposal to the BBMP, anticipating funds allocation in the upcoming 2024-25 BBMP budget. Once the financial resources are secured, a detailed project report will be meticulously prepared. Currently, the BBMP boasts 1,146 parks within its jurisdiction.
Simultaneously, the forest wing of BBMP has taken a parallel initiative to enhance the city’s green cover by planting saplings of neem, wood apple, mango, and other trees, with a specific focus on BBMP parks.
This collaborative effort underscores the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the well-being of its residents.
