This new scheme will be effective starting from 2022-23 season

In a groundbreaking development, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has unveiled a Test cricket incentive program offering up to Rs 45 lakh per match. This announcement follows India’s impressive 4-1 victory over England. Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, took to social media to share the details of this significant initiative.

With the aim of promoting Test cricket and recognizing consistent excellence in the longest format of the game, the Indian cricket board has introduced the “Test Cricket Incentive Scheme.” Under this scheme, senior men’s team players who demonstrate dedication in Test matches will receive additional match fees.

Players who participate in more than 75 percent of the Tests in a season for India will be eligible for the Rs 45 lakh additional fee per Test match. Currently, each Test cricketer receives Rs 15 lakh as a match fee from the BCCI, which is renowned as the wealthiest cricket board globally.

This new scheme will be effective starting from the 2022-23 season, with the board disbursing arrears to regular Test players. The BCCI has allocated an additional payout of Rs 40 crore per season for the implementation of this scheme.

The BCCI’s proactive step is viewed as a significant move to rejuvenate Test cricket, especially in light of the dominance of franchise-based T20 leagues in the cricket calendar, which offer lucrative opportunities to players.
