The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up to commence the search for a new head coach for the men’s team as Rahul Dravid’s tenure draws to a close in June. Secretary Jay Shah disclosed that Dravid could throw his hat into the ring for the role, leaving open the possibility of a foreign coach being appointed as well.

With Dravid’s contract extended until the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to kick off in the West Indies and USA from June 2, the BCCI is poised for a significant decision-making process in the coaching department. Shah emphasized that the appointment of other coaching staff members, such as batting, bowling, and fielding coaches, would be contingent upon consultation with the new head coach.

Impact player rule 

Regarding the impact player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shah weighed in on its influence on the ongoing edition, attributing it to fostering aggressive stroke play and facilitating substantial team totals. He noted that the rule has bolstered opportunities for Indian players in the league. Shah clarified that the BCCI plans to engage with all stakeholders before considering any changes to the rule, asserting that its status is not permanent.
