Bengaluru: Namma Metro ridership crosses 100-cr mark since 2011

Since its inception in 2011, the Namma Metro, its ridership has crossed the 100-cr mark. 51% of the users have a smart card. 31% of the users use tokens for travel. 14% of the users procure tickets through the Quick Response (QR) code. 

In its first year, the average daily income for Namma Metro was Rs 3.80 lakh. 33,512 users travelled by Namma Metro on a daily basis in 2011-2012. The average daily income came down to Rs 2.4 lakh in the next year. The average number of users per say came down to 18,142. The figures for 2013-2014 were very similar. Rs 2.7 lakh was the average daily income and the average number of commuters was 18,879. 

There was however a gradual increase each year from that point. The increment in the number of travellers was by 10,000-15,000 each year and the increment in average daily income was by Rs 2.5 lakh-Rs 3.0 lakh each year. This was until 2016 when the number touched the 6-figure-mark for the first time. Rs 30,20,000 was the average daily income that year and the average number of travellers per day was 1,48,369. 

This slowly increased to more than 3 lakh, then more than 4 lakh and recently more than 6 lakh users per day. This decreased only in 2020 and 2021 when the pandemic stuck. The average daily collection has also exceeded Rs 1 crore ever since 2019 except in the pandemic years. In 2023, Rupees One crore forty seven lakh and seventy thousand was the average daily income and the average number of users per day was 6,10, 741.
