On a typical Friday morning at KR Puram police station, preparations for the day were underway when a 17-year-old boy entered at 9 am, inquiring about the ‘circle inspector’.

The minor was escorted to the inspector’s chamber, where a policewoman began gathering details. Subsequently, a message regarding the incident was transmitted over walkie-talkies, prompting a Hoysala vehicle to rush to the provided residential address. There, the police team discovered the 40-year-old woman, formerly a teacher in a private school, lying on the kitchen floor with a severe head injury, surrounded by a pool of blood.

The second-year diploma student recounted a morning altercation with his mother over breakfast. As he was preparing to leave for college, a disagreement ensued when she refused to cook for him. The argument escalated, leading the boy to use an iron rod, fatally striking his mother on the head. Believing her to be unconscious, he splashed water on her face. Upon realizing her demise, he walked to the police station, situated approximately a kilometre from his residence.

The boy’s father, a farmer, was away for work, and his elder sister is studying abroad, according to the police.

Neighbours mentioned that the boy and his mother often engaged in heated arguments, but the situation had never escalated to such a tragic outcome before.
