Visas have been secured for a contingent of 21 Chinese technical professionals, encompassing locomotive pilots, technicians, and engineers from the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC).

This development signals a significant stride forward in the progress of the Bengaluru Metro’s inaugural driverless train. The anticipated dispatch date for this state-of-the-art train is December 15, with its journey culminating at Chennai Port, from where it will be transported by road to Bengaluru’s Hebbagodi depot before the festive occasion of Makara Sankranti on January 15, as reportedly outlined by a senior official from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Originally slated for a commencement on November 20, the deployment of the Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) or driverless technology train faced delays, attributable to unforeseen circumstances after a BMRCL delegation’s trip to China to accelerate the procedural timeline. However, the imminent arrival of the first train is now set to kick-start the much-anticipated trial run for the RV Road-Bommasandra Line (Yellow Line, Reach-5) via Electronic City.

Of paramount importance is the expertise of the 65-strong Chinese technical team awaiting work visas from CRRC.

Their pivotal role encompasses testing and operating the inaugural train, with a significant portion dedicated to guiding and facilitating the production of subsequent trains at the Titagarh Wagons in West Bengal.

This comprehensive collaboration underscores the criticality of seamless integration and operational efficacy for Bengaluru’s burgeoning metro network.
