Once a favourite spot of locals to unwind on weekends, Vengaiyanakere in KR Puram has now fallen victim to the selfish acts of a few. What was once a bustling hub for boating and leisure now stands as a testament to neglect and exploitation.

Illegal borewells have come up in the lake’s buffer zone, while unauthorized connections siphon off its precious water. Adjacent to the lake, an illegal layout has emerged, encroaching upon its fragile ecosystem.

The plight of Vengaiyanakere mirrors a larger issue plaguing Silicon City. While residents grapple with water scarcity due to erratic weather patterns and scanty rainfall, the proliferation of illegal borewells exacerbates the problem.

Despite regulations prohibiting any activity within the lake’s buffer zone, reports allege that these rules are being flouted with impunity.
