Just two days ago, Iyer fell victim to an elaborate scheme orchestrated by online thieves. Posing as officials from the Central Crime Branch (CCB), the perpetrators initiated contact with Iyer, claiming association with the Mumbai police station and alleging her involvement in a money laundering case. They coerced Iyer into a 24-hour-long video call, effectively digitally detaining her within her own home.

During the call, the impostors levied baseless accusations against Iyer, mentioning her purported involvement in a money laundering case allegedly linked to Naresh Goyal, implicating 247 individuals nationwide. Ultimately, the fraudulent officials demanded a staggering sum of ₹30 lakhs from Iyer.

Realizing the deceit, Iyer promptly lodged a complaint with the cyber crime authorities. Reflecting on her harrowing experience, Iyer shed light on the modus operandi of these cyber criminals, describing their method as part of a larger pattern of online deception targeting influential individuals.

As cases of online fraud continue to proliferate, Iyer’s ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive threat posed by cyber criminals, who exploit technology to prey on unsuspecting victims.
