BAF is gearing up to commence a pilot project

Aimed at understanding market dynamics for treated water

Pilot project will focus on a single ward in Bellandur

Following the recent government approval allowing apartments to sell treated water from their in-house sewage treatment plants (STPs), the Bangalore Apartment Federation (BAF) is gearing up to commence a pilot project aimed at understanding the market dynamics and sales modalities.

Scheduled for an early May launch, the pilot project will focus on a single ward in Bellandur. BAF is currently assessing the availability of treated water in the area and identifying apartments willing to participate in the initiative. This information will be matched with the demand from commercial establishments and construction sites.

Collaborating closely with BAF, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), which recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BAF, will facilitate the sale by connecting establishments in need of treated water with participating apartments.

In addition to addressing immediate needs, the pilot project serves as a groundwork for long-term initiatives, such as installing pipelines from apartments to industries, ensuring a sustainable and direct water supply in the future.

With around 700 MLD of treated water generated by apartment complexes citywide, BAF and BWSSB are also working to develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to streamline the process of selling treated water and ensure compliance with quality standards. Various methods, including laboratory testing and on-the-spot test kits, are being explored to maintain water quality throughout the sales process.
