Bengaluru: BBMP to take measures to ensure preparedness in light of prediction of heavy rain over next 3 weeks

The recent spell of rain in Bengaluru has brought a sense of relief among the people of Bengaluru who dealt with intense heat in the month of April. Predictions indicate that a continuous spell of rain can be expected in Bengaluru over the next few days. 

Bengaluru received rain after a period of 160 days. This has resulted in a slight reduction of temperature. The latest prediction indicates that similar spells of rain can be expected over the course of the next three weeks. This update was provided by the Global Forecast System. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre shared an update pertaining to this on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter). May 8th and May 9th are anticipated to witness a particularly larger amount of rain.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been making arrangements in ight of these predictions. Canals are being cleared. Officials have been named for every ward. Focus will also be towards ensuring that water does not remain stagnant in under bridges. BBMP Commissioner Tushar Gandhi provided an update of these measures that would be taken. Even a normal amount of rain exposed the shortcomings in Bengaluru’s infrastructure. One can only hope that Bengaluru is prepared for what’s coming its way.
