Initiative follows a recent tragic incident in Kadugodi

Officials address issues in 8,198 out of the 26,022 identified spots

There are still 16,791 hazardous spots awaiting rectification in city

BESCOM, the electricity provider in Bengaluru, has identified over 26,000 hazardous spots within its jurisdiction, with the majority located in the city.

This initiative follows a tragic incident in Kadugodi where a woman and her baby died from stepping on a live wire on the footpath.

During the survey conducted from November 21 to November 30, officials addressed flaws and issues in 8,198 out of the 26,022 identified spots. However, Bengaluru still has 16,791 hazardous spots awaiting rectification.

The survey data reveals that Bengaluru alone accounts for 23,187 dangerous spots, with South End Circle having the highest number at 11,982, followed by 2,080 in Kolar and 460 in Davangere. Identified faults in the electrical infrastructure range from loosely hanging to skinned-out power cables and exposed conductors in transformers.

Recognizing the potential threat to citizens, BESCOM officials have directed division-level officers to rectify these issues within 15 days, prioritizing spots that pose immediate threats or have heavy footfall.

The goal is to eliminate all hazardous spots within BESCOM’s jurisdiction by the end of December.

Additionally, efforts are underway to remove illegal Optical Fibre Cables (OFC) attached to BESCOM poles, as these cables have been linked to accidents in the past, including incidents where electric poles collapsed after the cables were pulled by vehicles, causing injuries to individuals.
