BJP leaders carried empty vases to mark their protest

“Neerilla Neerila” (There’s no water) slogans were raised

50% of borewells across Bengaluru have become empty: Tejasvi

The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is organising a protest against the Congress-led State Government. BJP leaders have assembled outside the Freedom Park in Bengaluru. They carried empty vases to mark their protest. Their accusation is that the government has mismanaged the drought situation prevalent across Karnataka. Empty tanks were placed on vehicles controlled by horses as a symbolic act representing the precarious state of water availability across the state. “Neerilla Neerila” (There’s no water) slogans were raised by BJP workers.

BJP MP from the Bengaluru South constituency Tejasvi Surya also participated in the protest. “The state of affairs is so precarious that we have to protest for drinking water. This has never happened in the past. 50% of borewells across Bengaluru have become empty. This is a manmade and government-made disaster. We warned the government that releasing water to Tamil Nadu might lead to this crisis. But our warning wasn’t heeded. They did this due to their affiliation with the DMK. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hasn’t visited a single ward. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has promised to dig new borewells but we do not know what progress has been made in this regard,” Tejasvi said.
